Maidenhead closing in on title6th March

Maidenhead Under 13 Boy's are on the verge of winning the Berkshire Winter Tennis league after a convincing winning against Caversham. Maidenhead U13 Boys have not been beaten this season in four matches. Playing in very difficult conditions, with a cold wind and glaring bright sunshine, Lorne Edmunds won his singles 6/3 6/2, while Alexander Trill won his singles 6/2 7/5. Edmunds and Trill then paired up for the doubles which they won 6/2 7/5. Having dropped only two sets between them during the winter, the Maidenhead boys face Windsor in their last match to clinch the title.

Maidenhead Under 13 C team put up a brave fight but narrowly lost to the unstoppable power of the Windsor 3 team. There were some ferocious forehands, blazing backhands and some smashing serves but no successful volleys by either player. Ollie Dandridge made his debut for the club and lost a tight match on a Championship tie break which was littered with long rallies and winners. In the doubles, the Maidenhead pair gained a little revenge by winning a final set Championship tie break. The whole match was played in an excellent spirit and whilst Maidenhead lost 1-2, there is great confidence for the future from the quality of the youngsters.

Maidenhead Under 18 lost to Crowthorne 3-0. The score did not reflect the closeness of the match with Alan Davies and George Stone narrowly losing both their singles and doubles.

Super Sunday at Maidenhead Tennis Club

Sunday 6th Feb saw the Maidenhead Juniors in fine form against Berkshire opposition recording 3 wins and a narrow defeat.

Maidenhead LTC Under 13 Boys A team powered to a 3-0 win over their opponents from Wargrave LTC on Sunday. Both the Maidenhead players took a set to settle in the opening singles, each winning 6-4. In the second set of his singles, Alex Trill won 6-2 while Lorne Edmunds won his 6-1. Trill and Edmund paired up for the doubles and suffered from a lack of concentration in the first set but regained control, winning the second and the championship tiebreak to complete a clean sweep.

The Under 13 Boys B team matched their team mates and recorded a fine 2-1 win over Esporta Bracknell. Ben Gauna got off to a flying start and was soon one set up. He also dominated the second set, and finished 6-0, 6-1. Edward Challis had a tougher game on a slippery court, with long rallies testing both players. Edward eventually pulled through the first set 6-4. The second set was even tighter. At 6 all Edward was faced with winning the tie-break - to avoid a third set decider which he accomplished. The pair teamed up for the doubles but lost despite having a set point in the first set.

The Under 18 Boys team fared less well against Bracknell losing the match 2-1. George Stone and Alan Davies lost their singles after both winning the opening sets. Nigel Mann Head Coach at Maidenhead LTC said, “Both George and Alan deserved better luck, they gave 100%, it was so close to a win but the opposition showed their experience”

Finally the Girls Under 18 trounced Slough 3-0 with emphatic singles wins by Lisa Bailey and Jo Williams followed by an equally convincing doubles performance.
