Maidenhead LTC Win a Bronze & 2 Silvers
at
Mini Tennis County Championships

The culmination of the Berkshire Mini Tennis League took place on the 19th March 2005 with the finals being held at the superb indoor tennis facility at Bradfield College. Maidenhead LTC were the only club in the Berkshire to have representatives in each of the 3 finals. A fantastic achievement in itself!!!!!

The Mini Red Team started the day. They quickly established a winning margin against Ace Stars with Callum Turner and James Bunker showing their experience. They were supported brilliantly by the young Seb Harris demonstrating his excellent forehand and a smile after every point win or lose. Lewis Brown has been developing very quickly and his technique was excellent throughout. In the second round MLTC defeated Caversham but Bradfield the home team were slightly too strong and we lost by a narrow margin to win the silver medal.

Josh Harris, Adam Moher and Callum Turner represented MLTC at the Mini Orange level. Each player played a tie break against the other 3 clubs players making a total of 9 tie breaks played. Having already played for 2 hours at Red, Callum showed fantastic energy and concentration against older children. Josh Harris leading the team at 1 was fantastic. His rasping forehands tore into the opposition, but sometimes they came back!!!! Adam Moher showed excellent court, tactical awareness and determination against the stronger opposition. After 2 hours of intense competition, Maidenhead Mini Orange Team finished in a very creditable 3rd place and is now looking forward to the Green competition next year!!!!

The Mini Green team consisted of the very experienced tournament players George Hedley, Connor Pearce and Matt Newman. Could this by our chance for Gold? The standard of tennis throughout the competition was excellent with long rallies showing good technique, consistency and concentration from all 3 MLTC members. Each player won vital matches adding to the tally of matches won. After two and a half hours, Maidenhead were equal with Reading University. A tie break play off to decide the championship took place with George Hedley and Matt Newman representing MLTC. The tie break was tense, hearts were pounding (spectators and players), hands were sweaty in anticipation of the next few minutes. Matt and George established a 5-3 lead through a mixture of groundstroke superiority and good volleying. Then Reading struck back forcing errors and a blistering serve to take a 6-5 lead. It was match point, Matt missed his first serve, showed nerve to control the second serve, but a good return put the MLTC pair under pressure and eventually they hit long and lost the tie break 7-5 and finished runners up.

Whilst the teams did not win a gold, Maidenhead LTC was the only club with representation in each event. The players performed brilliantly and are a credit to MLTC.

Finally a big thank you to all the parents who supported the children throughout the competition which started last November!!!!!!!
