The coaching programme at MLTC
Nigel Mann (Head Coach) manages the coaching programme and the lessons will be run by Nigel, Richard Downs and Selena Coburn. All coaches at Maidenhead LTC are L.T.A qualified. Groups will have a maximum of 8 to 12 pupils per coach and the emphasis will be on having fun by using a variety of games and activities to develop their skills and gradually increasing the technical aspects of the game when the pupils are ready. The groups will cater for all standards and ages and children will receive high quality coaching covering all aspects of tennis. For more information on other coaching opportunities at MLTC look on the coaching notice board or ask one of the coaches. Due to the limited court availability, places have been provisionally allocated for each member of the squad. Please could you advise Nigel Mann if you do not require a place so that it can be reallocated to those on the waiting list.
About the sessions All sessions are run in conjunction with the Lawn Tennis Association’s “Competition Framework”, which allows players to use equipment, balls and a court size that is proportionate to the players size, age and ability. For more information on the Competition Framework please see the coaching notice board.

How do I know which session to select?
Munchkin: For players learning to hit, move, react and adapt. Sessions develop the ABC’s (agility, balance and coordination), and work on the fundamentals of the game. For players aged 5-7, or of relevant ability. Sessions use Red and Orange balls, and Mini Tennis Awards.
Mini Pro: Continues to build on the foundations laid down in the Munchkin sessions, allowing players to improve on their technique, and develop tactically. For players aged 8-11 or older, or of relevant ability. Sessions use Orange and Green balls, and Mini Tennis Awards.
Junior Ace: Players learn how to construct points, and develop the ability to attack, using topspin and net play. For players aged 11-16, or of relevant ability. Sessions use Yellow balls.
Please note: It is essential that players are in the correct group for their ability, in order to improve and progress as well as their potential allows them to. Players move through the levels when they are able to serve and rally effectively and judge the flight of the ball for each level.
