- 20th MAIDENHEAD OPEN JUNIOR EASTER TOURNAMENT - Once again we had some of the best juniors in the country competing at Maidenhead over Easter. Although numbers were down from last year we still had over 300 competitors & for the first time we introduced mini events at 8 & under, 9& under and 10 & under generously sponsored by Hale & Co. the Maidenhead Accountants.
Not surprisingly some of the competition was tough for our local youngsters but hopefully the experience was worthwhile with plenty of “positives” for them & their coaches to work on.
Maidenhead LTC singles winners were Seb Harris in the 10u & George Hedley in the 14u. George also won the 14u doubles with his partner Dorset’s Oliver Brown. In other doubles finals Shona Young with her Queenswood School partner Dominique Gilbert won the Girls 18u whilst Niall Collins & Lorne Edmunds just lost in an exciting 18u boys final.
Peter Herke once again was the referee with Assistants Chris Mann & Brian Warren and some junior members who particularly helped with the minis.
Derek Hope presented the prizes and especially thanked Liz Moore & her kitchen helpers as well as Mary Stanley for organising car parking attendants.
Wearing my Berkshire LTA hat we are indebted to Maidenhead LTC members for allowing this top level event to go ahead each year and help raise the standard of junior tennis in the area. Brian Warren
